Hair Loss

Tue,17 January 2012

    Even though stress plays a big factor in causing baldness in both genders, it seems that the effects of stress level on women's hair is more pronounced than the hair on men. This may be due to the fact that women with hair loss have thinner hair which makes them more fragile and easier to break off. Luckily for women, this type of baldness is not permanent as the lost hair is reversible.

   It is  normal for everyone to have our hair fall out from our scalps every single day. We can shed about 80 to 150 pieces of hairs daily;

Therapeutic target for prostate cancer

Sat,07 January 2012

Prostate cancer is a common malignancy among men over the age of 50. The stage at which prostate cancer is diagnosed is critical for determining prognosis as well as choosing appropriate therapies.

Decreased expression of the marker galectin-3 has been reported to correlate with neoplastic progression in prostate cancer; however, increased levels of galectin-3 have been linked to tumorigenicity in a number of other tumor types. In order to reconcile this difference, Wang et al hypothesized that galectin-3 was cleaved during prostate cancer progression. They identified cleaved galectin-3 in l

Sexual Partners

Thu,05 January 2012

    A study by Indiana University neuroscientist Heather Rupp found that a woman's partner status influenced her interest in the opposite sex. In the study, women both with and without sexual partners showed little difference in their subjective ratings of photos of men when considering such measures as masculinity and attractiveness. However, the women who did not have sexual partners spent more time evaluating photos of men, demonstrating a greater interest in the photos. No such difference was found between men who had sexual partners and those who did not.

Painful Erections

Tue,03 January 2012

   For men coping with painful erections lasting for long periods of time, or priapism, new research published online in The FASEB Journal offers hope. That's because researchers from the United States and China show that the enzyme adenosine deaminase may prevent priapism from progressing to penile fibrosis, a condition associated with the build up of scar tissue and eventual impotence. As penile fibrosis is a complication of priapism, so priapism is a complication of sickle cell disease. Adenosine deaminase, which breaks down adenosine, is already used in humans as a treatment for a rare immune disorder.
